They told usÂ
this half was for the slow dyingÂ
of all we were, of all we loved,Â
of all we hoped this life could be.Â
Â
And for some, what they told usÂ
is truth today staringÂ
from the mirror that is crackingÂ
from the pain of realizingÂ
all that was everythingÂ
is withered and dead.
Â
But for me and my lovesÂ
we are findingÂ
the first half was the witnessingÂ
of the decayÂ
of civilizations,Â
of the old fearsome ways
that say hunt or be huntedÂ
before you are slayed.
Â
The first half was the buildingÂ
of the temple of beliefsÂ
that have decayed in the forestsÂ
born within the tyrannical brains
of cultures that ruled like kingsÂ
over states
of exhausted and loveless slaves.Â
Â
The second half cameÂ
like an unknown treasure
waiting beneath the gravesÂ
of all we lost, of all the onesÂ
unworthy of the trust we gave.
Â
Letting go of the illusionsÂ
we worshipped like gods,Â
we scoop up these treasuresÂ
like they’re the moundsÂ
of magnificent soilÂ
we will plantÂ
our futures in—-they areÂ
the luminous seeds
of tomorrows we never knewÂ
were waiting for us.Â
Â
They are the long-lost,Â
long-awaited, the immeasurably
precious ones
who have been fightingÂ
their own wars
along their way to the shoreÂ
where they have been standingÂ
ever since word came
our ship was coming,Â
Â
after surviving the battles
everyone said would destroy us.Â
Â
The battles scars are there
but the buoyancy of this structureÂ
is indestructible spiritÂ
that rises aboveÂ
the ravages of every wave
Â
to the placeÂ
where onlyÂ
Love can reign
