They told us

this half was for the slow dying

of all we were, of all we loved,

of all we hoped this life could be.

And for some, what they told us

is truth today staring

from the mirror that is cracking

from the pain of realizing

all that was everything

is withered and dead.

But for me and my loves

we are finding

the first half was the witnessing

of the decay

of civilizations,

of the old fearsome ways

that say hunt or be hunted

before you are slayed.

The first half was the building

of the temple of beliefs

that have decayed in the forests

born within the tyrannical brains

of cultures that ruled like kings

over states

of exhausted and loveless slaves.

The second half came

like an unknown treasure

waiting beneath the graves

of all we lost, of all the ones

unworthy of the trust we gave.

Letting go of the illusions

we worshipped like gods,

we scoop up these treasures

like they’re the mounds

of magnificent soil

we will plant

our futures in—-they are

the luminous seeds

of tomorrows we never knew

were waiting for us.

They are the long-lost,

long-awaited, the immeasurably

precious ones

who have been fighting

their own wars

along their way to the shore

where they have been standing

ever since word came

our ship was coming,

after surviving the battles

everyone said would destroy us.

The battles scars are there

but the buoyancy of this structure

is indestructible spirit

that rises above

the ravages of every wave

to the place

where only

Love can reign
